How PBS Teachers is Useful to Educators

PBS Teachers is an excellent source for teachers and other educators to get lesson plans and other different ideas to enhance the learning of their students.  The website has a variety of ideas in any subject area or age group.  Each lesson plan has a detailed description of how to teach a certain lesson and even what materials need to be used.  For example if a teacher was teaching about the different measurements, in the PBS lesson plan it shows different interactive projects and ways to get the students engaged in the learning process.  These lesson plans are also great because they break down how you will use the class time and show what orders to perform the tasks.

This website is also very helpful when you want to enhance your own lesson.  This site has many articles, movies, and other media that pertains to certain lessons.  Using the recourses that PBS Teachers has, gives the teachers the ability to incorporate technology into any of their lessons.  The PBS Teachers website also gives teachers the ability to talk with various teachers all over the world.  This gives the opportunity for teachers to cooperate with one another and to ask questions.

These great recourses in PBS teachers could greatly help me when I become a elementary or middle school recourse teacher.  For example if I was helping students in 5th or 6th grade in math a lesson plan about surface area and volume.  In this lesson plan it explains the relationship between baseball and how to find the surface area and volume of spheres.  It also shows a really creative and detailed project in which the students make and imprint a baseball in clay and the students measure and try to calculate surface area and volume.  With this lesson plan and project it makes the learning of measurements much more fun and relatable to the student's lives.

A good interactive game that would be helpful to me if I was a elementary recourse teacher is a game called Cyber Case: Lucky Star.  It is a game that helps students polish up on their simple multiplication, addition, and subtraction.  This would be a good review game for students, so that they could learn the basic fundamentals of math, so that they could be prepared for advanced learning.  It is important to make learning fun and interactive so that students will enjoy and want to learn more. This video shows a simple rhyming game that helps children learn to read.

I believe that students should be interactive in the learning process and that it is necessary for learning to be effective.  I found an interesting video called Pre-Reading that shows how a teacher, before reading a passage to look at the pictures and titles to help a student formulate questions in their minds before reading the passage.  If found this particularly interesting because in my school career I never was able to think critically about a subject or be creative in wondering what the reading was about.  Using this technique gives me the opportunity to help students learn, problem solve, and be creative when it comes to reading.

Technology is a wonderful way to engage students in learning and to help them become more successful citizens.  PBS Teachers is a wonderful website in which teachers have access to many different types of learning materials to help interest students.  It also gives teachers the opportunity to chat with fellow teachers about issues and how to become a better teacher.  I was also able to find many great lesson plans, games, and videos to help make myself successful as a teacher and to help children become more interactive in their education.
